While we celebrate the centennial of the 19th Amendment we must not ignore the racism that plagued the suffrage movement nor overlook the contributions of women of color to gain the right to vote. 1920 was a milestone for women’s history however many women, especially women of color, were unable to vote until the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
It is with that in mind that we offer this short film, an impressionistic dance piece conceived by Carli Mareneck & Neely Seams to celebrate and encourage voting in 2020. Produced by Blues Skies Ahead in West Virginia. Cinematography & editing by Mary Grace Legg of Lockerpartners.
Celebrate the vote and continue to fight for equal access to the polls.
